Gardens represent such a great importance to urbanism for their environmental, social and historical dimensions. In addition to their obvious integral role to the active living of cities and towns, gardens play a basic role in building up the image of architecture and urban fabric; providing a source of recreation and bringing people outdoors as well as enhanced environmental quality.
In the 19th century Cairo city had been recognized by the beauty of its historical gardens and their heritage value, whose origin related to some important persons or events, Recently, the degrading visual image and deterioration of most of these gardens have been the result of a number of reasons, including the many updates, changes and different intrusions which have dramatically lead to overall urban texture degradation. Other major deterioration reasons include, but not restricted to, carelessness, unawareness and being unappreciated to the national and historical value for these gardens. Besides, non specialists have become the controllers and decision makers of garden design and conservation projects without consultations from specialists. As a result, these gardens, which represented an Egyptian civilized symbol someday, have been deteriorated. Some serious trials to keep on the track and catch this urban progress evolved, but the lack of connections with the surroundings insistently lead to gradual loss of their historical identity.
This thesis introduces a wide set of guidelines and criteria to study and analyze how to conserve the urban heritage - represented in heritage gardens - as an approach to urban upgrade within areas and surrounding urbanism.
Based on, and guided by, a number of previous studies and results, this research surveys and applies the ssuggested methodology and analyses of its elements and levels on one of the city inherited urban models (El Horreya Garden in El-Zamalek Island ).

The possibility of reducing construction projects cost without affecting requirements necessary for performance is possible through applying Value Engineering technology that proved efficiency and high outcomes when applied on construction industry. It has become a basic requirement in the present time particularly during the world economic crisis. Whereas the application of this technology is on a minor scale in construction projects in Egypt, therefore this research targets to recognize the recommendations leading to facilitate the application of Value Engineering in construction projects in Egypt. In addition to that, the research aims at recognizing three important focal lines which are: the basics that Value Engineering relies on, the importance of advantages achieves from using this technology and recognition of obstacles that prevent the applying of this method through performing a questionnaire distributed on different sectors (owners, consultants, contractors and suppliers) which have a direct relation with Egyptian construction projects The factors affecting the previous four focal lines are recognized to be 24 factors out of 60 factors of the total questionnaire items. Results were analyzed by using SPSS program where questionnaire items were evaluated through measuring Reliability Coefficient to be 0.900 and Validity Coefficient to be 0.949. These values reflect that the measurement is stable and not self-conflicting and that it measures what it claimed to measure.

The objective of this study is to develop a vertically integrated two dimensional numerical sediment transport model. This model is divided in two parts: hydrodynamic modeling and sediment transport modeling. Hydrodynamic modeling simulates flow velocities which are then used in the sediment transport model to simulate sediment concentrations. To represent the sediment transport system in a flow, the conservative form of two dimensional advection diffusion equation is used. To solve this equation a fractional step method, also known as standard split approach (Sobey 1983, Dragsolav 2001), is used. This approach splits the advection diffusion equation in two parts: advection and diffusion, which are solved separately. To solve the advection part, a high resolution conservative algorithm for advection in incompressible flow developed by Leveque (1996) is used. To solve the diffusion part, a semi-implicit finite difference scheme is used.

This research work aims to study the effect of five different shapes; semi-circular, trapezoidal, spaced trapezoidal, triangular, spaced triangular corrugated beds on the corresponding scour downstream the hydraulic jump experimentally. Three different types of sand samples (fine sample with d50= 0.167mm, medium sample with d50= 0.365mm and coarse sample with d50= 0.62mm) were used. Total of 285 experimental runs were performed using five values of discharge equal to 5, 8, 11, 13, and 15 lit. /sec. and a wide range of Froude number ranging from 1.61 to 6.56. Six different relative roughness values equal to 0.5, 0.67, 0.8, 1.0, 1.33, and 2.0 were tested. From the analysis of data, it was found that the spaced triangular corrugated bed is the best for the reduction of hydraulic jump properties and consequently the corresponding scour dimensions.

The main aim of the present work is to investigate the static and dynamic analysis of suspended cable roofs for halls having rectangular shapes due to wind load. The responses of nonlinear analysis are taken into consideration. The deterministic approaches require considerable analysis time and effort in relation of modeling, running, and data processing. Detailed static and dynamic analysis of cable roof networks is sophisticated and requires advanced modeling expertise. The approach can be considered as alternative to analysis in the preliminary design phase, or can be used to validate results obtained from more elaborated numerical models. This good preliminary technique was examined using several examples and the results are in good agreement with these solved using the computer program. Many rectangle cable roofs have been studied and analyzed using a computer program Sap 2000 version 14.0.0 [1]. The results are used to investigate the factors that affect the design and the response of cable suspended roofs. Also, the results, graphs and relationships form a good technique for the preliminary design of rectangle cable suspended roofs. Proposed model is illustrated with program which is mentioned before.

The velocity gradient (G-value) and the value of GT are highly correlated to the flocculation efficiency in conventional water treatment process. The determination of G-value is always related to the energy dissipated in flocculation zone. Hydraulic flocculation was established by high speed tangential inlet flow in circular tank with internal cone which give spiral movement of water between the inner surface of the tank and the outer surface of the cone. This work gives an approximate determination of the variation velocity gradient in the flocculation process by calculating the energy dissipated in flocculation on the basis of the head loss through flocculation zone.

Decentralized Generation (DG) systems have received inereased attention in recent years due to the restructuring and deregulation of electric power systems and markets. In addition, rapid increase in eleetric power demand and the need for environment conservation are major driving factors for developing alternative energy sources at the consumer level. Fuel Cells (FCs) arc one of the most important DG types due to their Technical, economical and environmental advantages. The connection of DGs to medium voltage distribution feeders causes voltage rise at the point of common coupling. With proper control algorithm and oversizing of the inverters, DXGs would have the ability to exchange reactive power and hence regulate voltage. This paper discusses the dynamic performance of Fuel Cell DG system integrated with Static VAR compensation capability, for voltage quality management, whether the voltage disturbance is caused by interconnection of DG to the distribution grid or any other reason. The proposed integrated FC/Static VAR compensator system is tested for normal FC grid connected operation, for cases of voltage sags and swells, and voltage flicker. Modeling and control approaches are proposed, including a detailed modeling of the AC/DC inverter configuration used for grid interconnection and compensation purposes. A multi-level control technique is proposed based on the instantaneous power theory. Validation of the models and control schemes is carried out using a test system built with MATLAB/Simulink. The results demonstrate the effective performance of proposed controller, as well as the benefits of its use in distribution network voltage quality management in the presence of FC DG units. Key words: Decentralized Generation (DG), Fuel Cell (FC), voltage quality, multilevel control.

The wind turbines are classified according to their control strategy to fixed speed and variable speed turbines. The most common control strategies are stall, pitch and active stall. Each control strategy is coupled to either squirrel cage induction generator, doubly fed induction generator or direct drive synchronous generator. Zafarana wind farm which has already reached a capacity of 425 MW is the largest installed wind farm in the Middle East and Africa. Both fixed and variable speed wind turbines are used in Zafarana wind farm. This paper introduces steady state models of different types of Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) used in Zafarana wind farm in terms of calculated performance coefficient, active power, and reactive power. The derived models are verified using actual data measured from the site as a very good approximation. So, they are used for further analysis. A complete power flow analysis of the Egyptian grid portion that contains Zafarana wind farm (Canal Zone that is represented by 34 bus system) is performed. Also the impact of interconnecting Zafarana wind farm on the Canal Zone voltage stability is evaluated by obtaining the expected voltage stability margin at each wind speed and accumulating for all expected wind speed values on the site.

A novel five series of monoesters were prepared two series by reaction of oxypropylated 1, 6 hexane diol with two types of fatty acid chloride (lauroyl and palmi and three series by the reaction of polyethylene glycol (MWs = 400, 1500, 2000) with three types of fatty acid chloride (decanoyl, lauroyl and palmitoyl chloride)]. The unique structural features of these surfactants were confirmed by spectroscopic tools (IR- 'H NMR). These nonionic monoesters have been found to exhibit excellent surface active properties including surface tension, interfacial tension, critical micelle concentration (CMC), low foaming, emulsion stability, and wetting. Also good biodegradability in river water, stability to hydrolysis in acidic and alkaline media, solubilization and dispersant properties in disperse dye systems were determined and evaluated. The antimicrobial and antifungal properties of these prepared monoesters were measured and evaluated .A comparison studies were done between the chemical structures and surface properties of such compounds.
This research paper aims to study the effect of both chimney and horizontal filters separately on seepage characteristics (free water surface, seepage face length and seepage discharge) through earth dams based an impervious base. This study was conducted through both the experimental method by sand box model and the numerical method by boundary element method (BEM).
Also, the effect of either chimney or horizontal filters on seepage characteristic was included. Comparison between the experimental data and the corresponding numerical results for each type of filters was carried out. Also, a comparison between chimney and horizontal filters was presented. It was found that for the same cross section of the earth dam, decreasing the distance between the dam inlet face and the filter position (D) for two types of filters resulting in lowering free water surface, increasing seepage face length, and increasing the seepage flow rate. The seepage face length Sr for chimney and horizontal filters were less than the height of exit point for dam without filter, Also the relative seepage face length Sr/Swf for chimney drain was larger than the corresponding value for horizontal filter by an average difference value of 58,58%. Although the relative seepage discharge qsher/qws for horizontal filter was less than that for chimney filter, the seepage discharge, qframe for both the horizontal and the chimney filters were greater than the seepage discharge through dam without filter.
Concerning filter volume, horizontal filter is preferred on chimney filter to reduce the volume of used material.
