Abstract

This research work aims to study the effect of five different shapes; semi-circular, trapezoidal, spaced trapezoidal, triangular, spaced triangular corrugated beds on the corresponding scour downstream the hydraulic jump experimentally. Three different types of sand samples (fine sample with d50= 0.167mm, medium sample with d50= 0.365mm and coarse sample with d50= 0.62mm) were used. Total of 285 experimental runs were performed using five values of discharge equal to 5, 8, 11, 13, and 15 lit. /sec. and a wide range of Froude number ranging from 1.61 to 6.56. Six different relative roughness values equal to 0.5, 0.67, 0.8, 1.0, 1.33, and 2.0 were tested. From the analysis of data, it was found that the spaced triangular corrugated bed is the best for the reduction of hydraulic jump properties and consequently the corresponding scour dimensions.
