Some Characteristics of the Urban Formation of Old Places and their Reflection on the Social Values of Residents.

Abstract

 As determination of characteristics of forming in architectural and urban design or housing aims to confirm, their recognition and interconnection values with the society, an acceleration in the process of development and upgrading will be noticed. Ignoring the heritage and basic design roots and values of these areas, process that aim merely at buildings' architectural and structural maintenance in addition to infrastructures, transportation. and services will finally lead to loss of identity. These alarming factors are reasons enough for these places to be deterrents lo any anticipated development processes, especially if they are further affected with deterioration by time after being developed. This paper aims to test these issues of urban design and their reflection on the social values of residents Based on a descriptive analytical methodology for some of the forming characteristics in urban design, the following processes were undertaken lo approach the research's goals: 
Theoretical approach: demonstrating a number of concepts of urban shaping and their role in Sustaining social values.
Case study: the selected area is (Kom El-Dekka) in Alexandria City. Results: lo lay down the output results of examining forming and shaping characteristics in the studied area.
 Recommendations: to help sustain more of the urban forming characteristics and values.
