A two- dimensional finite element method is used to study the problem of steady-state unconfined seepage due to rainfall through porous media. The method is based on the finite element residnal scheme. Homogeneous and nonhomogeneous soil domains are considered and solved numerically. Numerical results are compared with that obtained from the analytical approximations to be in the same order of magnitude. To facilitate its practical use, the scheme has been programmed for computer solution using FORTRAN-IV language.
